I just got a call from Janet at Winooski Press. Our invitations are ready to be picked up this afternoon! I can hardly wait to see them. That and put them in the mail. Because we are getting married, in 86 days!

Oh and did I mention that the grand total for it all, is a whopping $209.67?!

Hysterical (and sad?) Because it's True

Not all of ladies are fortunate (or stressed out as much as) Shannon Marie Fitzpatrick, but we do dream and scheme of the day we'll walk down that aisle.

Peacock and a Dove

That analogy is the new catch phrase Shannon and I have coined for what it will be like when I stand up next to her as her Maid of Honor.

It completely encompasses our personal styles, not just on that day, but in life, and our personalities. It's just perfect for...everything.

I am, of course, they crazy purple and emerald bedazzled peacock, boisterous, all bosoms and hair and fascinators and singing proudly showing my feathers...etc.

Shannon, on the other hand, will be the perfect calm dove, flawless makeup on, bridal glow in full force, in her gorgeous gown, calmly and graciously thanking and greeting and hugging her friends and family as the "Mrs"...all ivory and pearls and love and perfection.

Speaking of being the peacock, I got these images from my dear Etsy friend, another "Kate" [Kate rhymes with fate] who is in Australia building my custom MOH fascinator. Her shop is fantastic, called "spoiled pretty." I highly recommend it to any bride or fabulously stylish woman.

Shan and I agreed early on there should be something distinctive and different as we're all wearing that fabulous Vera Wang, and the fascinator is tres moi, very of the times, brings in her wedding colors, and is blinged out. I also get to support a "not so local" artisan in the process!

I cannot wait to see what each and every one of the SEVEN maids brings to her gown accessorizing expressing their personal style and interpretation of "Vermont Romance."

Six and a half months and counting...

What's crazy is that Henry's first birthday marks exactly six months until their wedding date, as we had that "fun" near disaster with the venue, and pushed the wedding forward one week to September 8th, 2012.

Everything is happening so fast! Soon Shannon will be Shannon Kinlund, married to the love of her life, but she will always have her peacock at her side.

DIY

I am sitting at Kate's kitchen table somewhere between laughing and crying. We have been working on wedding stuff for about ten hours.

We are desperately trying to print mock ups of my Bridal Shower invitations. First PhotoShop wouldn't recognize the printer. After about the sixth trial, we tried another application. We got closer but because the card stock is an odd size. We need to be able to customize it under the actual Printer settings.

Did I mention she is trying to do this on an Dell?

DIY weddings are a great idea, in theory.

Luckiest

In one day, just after the New Year, he said the following two things to me:

-"What can I do to honor you this year?"

-"Shannon, I know I shouldn't say this, but these things aren't important to me. What's important to me, is the next morning. I wake up with my wedding band on my finger and you next to me. That's all I care about."

I am the luckiest.

New Venue

A few weeks ago we figured out that our original venue wasn't going to be suitable after all. Where we had planned on having our reception was actually a leach field, owned by the town of Bristol...

After some mild panic attacks and clever rearrangement we are getting married a week earlier than we originally planned, due to a mix up at Burlington Country Club. After meeting with Lisa, the Clubhouse Manager and Event coordinator, Kate, Mom and I had a really great sense of the space.

A wide open field for our ceremony. We will have our guests arranged in an octagon to feel more inclusive. Then cocktail hour on the stone wall patio with the reception taking place inside the Clubhouse. Kate had her legal pad out asking all the right questions and Lisa was really, really accommodating. She basically told us to think of the space as completely bare and create it as we wish. Music to a bride's ears.

Granted there are now details to work out, but having a solidified venue sure does help.

That and red wine.

Worst Email Ever

Literally the last thing you ever, ever want to read THE DAY you are going to your venue to tour it, talk money and logistics, and put down a deposit with your MOH in tow:

"Shannon

I have bad news. As you know, we show the facility on a daily basis. A couple that previously saw the club returned today to secure a selected date with a deposit and a contract. Unfortunately, the date selected is September 15th. I know this is disappointing. If you would like to talk about another date I would be delighted to meet with you this afternoon as planned.

Wedding/Important Day Make Up tips and NEEDS

Dear Bride/s and Bridesmaids and family and friends and anyone who wants me to touch their face for any photo shoots, rehearsal dinners, engagement parties, weddings, showers, parties, dates, etc. PLEASE note the following and go shopping (it's early for Shannon and Gabe's wedding, I know, so for those gals wait until July/August to best match after summer skin tone):

This is Kate, by the way, can you tell?

-Please have your own favorite mascara, own eye lash curler, and a favorite lip gloss to use for any get togethers-eyes and mouths are gross and we could give each other funky stuff (yuck)

-Your own brushes are not necessary but always appreciated to use in the mix

-If you want facial contouring for heavily photographed days (slimmer nose, higher cheek bones, thinner face, usually most appropriate for makeup on perhaps THE wedding day and bachelorette party, or wedding shower!) please have the following purchased and ready:

1. A creamy foundation that matches your exact color (I know a lot of us love mineral wear brands, they're important too, but not as good for contouring.)
2. A creamy foundation or creamy concealer (Cargo brand's "The one" is best) too light, literally two shades too light, for your skin
3. A creamy foundation that is far too dark for you, like an extreme creamy bronzer without shimmer or foundation for an African American.

-If you have facial acne, acne scars or pits, or any facial scars, pits, uneven texture, OR very large pores, please have the following:

1. A creamy foundation that matches your face color
2. Those cheap triangle make up sponges you can get at Rite Aid/Duane Reade...any pharmacy or Walmart!
3. A translucent matte powder in either no color, a bit lighter than your color, or exact match (but not darker or shiny or sparkly.)

-Every gal should own a fabulous concealer. Contrary to many popular beliefs, it should be yellow tone based no matter your skin tone (I am quite red, I still have a yellow based concealer.) I now know how to make "corrector" out of concealer and other fun stuff to match your needs on the spot. Some of you may have corrector and are using it as concealer, thing the BOING pot by Benefit or any other rosey, peachy pot cream "concealers." That's cool-just means you have corrector already and probably need what's actually concealer. I'm happy to consult.

I CAN'T WAIT to do the make up for Shannon's wedding! Well, her's at least. She's #1, y'all other get in line.
